Castings are steels with more than 2% Carbon, made by casting. They are available as malleable iron castings, ductile iron castings, gray iron castings, Ingot iron, and steel castings, etc. They have low saturation induction. They contain several impurities – so their magnetic properties are poor and permeability is low. Cast Iron is used in large components that require inexpensive magnetic material. They produce large core loss at line frequencies. So they are used in near DC applications.

Version 6 stores both B(H) and Core Loss properties of each grade in a single excel file. MagWeb’s Castings Folder has B(H) properties of 38 grades of Castings.   These include cast steel, gray cast iron, wrought iron, malleable iron, ductile iron, etc.  For a full list of all these grades, please click ‘Steels List’ on the home page.

Data in Version 6 also exploited a novel data smoother. It is not unusual for measured data to be rough. Rough data can slow solution convergence.  To prevent such slowdown, MagWeb locates all rough spots in all raw data and spot-cleans them.  Version 6 also extrapolated all smoothed data to saturation. You can download Saturation Flux Density Js of thousands of Grades from SMAG – Materials link.

By downloading this Folder you will have 38 files on magnetic properties of castings produced worldwide at your fingertips!

Please review the Steels Handbook for more technical information on these materials.

This website is designed for an instant download of Folders (containing the magnetic property files) via credit card. If you wish to purchase via quote/purchase order, please email rao@magweb.us
